The events will take place on Friday, September 25th and Friday, October 2nd at 12:00pm EST.

The Theatre Arts and Latin American and Latinx Studies Programs at the University of Pennsylvania and Interdram, the Theatrical Platform for New Playwriting, present and invite you to two “Conversations on Playwriting and Social Unrest in Chile.” These events are an extension of the “Interdram Interviews” project, a series of interviews with renowned playwrights working with urgent themes and innovative formats in Chile today. The interviews have been published bimonthly in English and Spanish, alongside translated extracts of the playwrights’ works, on the website www.interdram.cl. The project aims to introduce Chilean playwrights to an English speaking audience and is supported by a 2020 Fondart grant for National Diffusion from the Chilean Ministry for Culture, Arts, and Patrimony.

The event will feature some of Chile’s most outstanding contemporary playwrights including Nona Fernández, Flavia Radrigán, Cristián Ruiz, Ximena Carrera, Pablo Manzi and Eduardo Luna in conversation with scholars Jennifer Joan Thompson (University of Pennsylvania) and Fabián Escalona (The Graduate Center, CUNY). The event will be moderated by Leonardo González.

The conversations will focus on themes related to the authors’ works such as the Mapuche conflict and indigenous rights, the feminist movement, and the ongoing Chile Desperto movement.
