LALS Affiliate Professor Daniel Aldana Cohen and LALS Alum Thea Riofrancos edit NACLA's latest issue focused on Latin America's Green New Deal

"We are in a climate emergency. In our view, all politics now are climate politics, and all climate politics are political economic struggles," write Daniel Aldana Cohen and Thea Riofrancos in "Latin America's Green New Deal," the Editor's introduction to the latest NACLA Report on the Americas

Daniel Aldana Cohen, Assistant Professor of Sociology, Director of the Socio-Spatial Climate Collaborative, and an affiliate professor of LALS with Thea Riofrancos, Assistant Professor of Political Science at Providence College who received her Ph.D. from Penn's Department of Political Science and was a graduate student and staff of LALS, edit the latest edition of NACLA focused on Latin America's Green New Deal.

In their introduction to the issue, they situate the Green New Deal debate in terms of political economy, in the context of the left-right political struggles and the Pink Tide's legacy, as well as the longer arc of struggles around developmentalism.  The pdf of their article can be found here: Aldana Cohen_and_Riofrancos_2020.pdf

Both Aldana Cohen and Riofrancos are co-authors with others of the 2019 book A Planet to Win: Why We Need a Green New Deal.
